This magnificent machine was originally a Maino frame from the 1940s until Paolo Chiossi restored it to its former glory. Chiossi Cycles is based in Modena, Italy, and from the looks of things Paolo has a passion and an impressive skill for restoring vintage Italians.
Paolo removed the brake and pump bosses, and built up a pair of wooden Ghisallo rims with vintageSturmey Archer hubs—the front is a dynamo with internal wiring inside the fork leg. The rear is a coaster brake, three speed internal number, toggled by a Sturmey shifter. The cable roller is interesting, and adds a new dimension to the classic silhouette. In keeping with the standard of the time, Paolo sourced a NOS pair of whitewall Clement tires. The crank set, possibly manufactured by Marinoni, is a work of art in itself, and a lovely detail is the curved hand holder. Perfect for carrying the steed up rickety palazzo staircase. The crown on the Maino, however, is Chiossi’s pure gold badge.
